Sally J. Resel, age 72, loving mother of three, and devoted wife to husband, Duane Resel, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2021, followed by a prayer service at 4:00 p.m., all at the church.
Sally was born January 7, 1949, in Miller, South Dakota to Robert and Jean (Ravenscroft) Gard. She joined an older brother, David and later her younger brother, Clair, completed their family.
Sally attended school in Miller, graduating in 1967. After graduation, Sally attended South Dakota Hairstyling Academy in Sioux Falls, SD. She then returned to Miller and worked for Miller Beauty Salon. She married her husband, Duane, March 28, 1971. To this union they welcomed three children: Stephan and Stephanie in 1972 and Sarah in 1978.
In her free time, you could find Sal in her kitchen. After the arrival of the twins, Sally became a farm wife, a stay-at-home mom and continued to be the “popcorn lady” and then the “ticket lady” at the Midway Drive-In and Princess Theatre. In 2004, Sally, her 3 kids and Mike Donlin purchased the Midway Drive-In Theatre. Sally loved to cook and bake, this which led her to publish three cookbooks of “tried and true” family recipes. Her motto was always “Do as the recipe says the 1st time, after that you can make adjustments.” She was planning her fourth cookbook of all the recipes she tried during quarantine.
She will be remembered for decorated cakes and cookies, her love of Hallmark movies, her wheelchair skills, her smile, and the love she had for her family.
She will be greatly missed by her family and especially her husband, Duane Resel of 50 years; her children: Stephan (Lori) Resel, Stephanie (and the late Jim) Bonebright; and Sarah Resel, all of Miller, SD; her grandchildren: Corey and Heather Resel, Ashley and Joshua Bonebright; 3 great grandchildren Ayden, Emma and Carter; her grand dog, Loomis; and brothers: David (Ginger) and Clair (Carmen); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Jean Gard; her parents-in-law: Lawrence and Clorene Resel; and her son-in-law, Boney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family, who will then donate to the Miller Fire Department, Hand County Ambulance, and the First Presbyterian Church.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Sal’s arrangements.
