Funeral services for Kenneth “Red” Utter, will be at 11 AM, MT, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the McIntosh Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the McIntosh Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Friday at the UCC Church in Mobridge.
Kenneth “Red’ George Utter, age 82, formerly of McIntosh, SD, took his last fishing trip on December 3, 2021.
Red was born to Ernest and Christine(Moser) Utter in McIntosh SD on October 19, 1939. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McIntosh on July 14, 1940.
Red graduated from McIntosh High School May 21, 1958. While in school Red participated in football, basketball, and track, lettering in several sports. After high school, Red worked for several local businesses and farmers/ranchers.
In February 1961, Red got his diploma in Fundamentals of Electronics from Devry Technical Institute. The following year he received an additional certification in Television and Radio Services from Devry. Red opened his own business, Ken’s TV repair, in McIntosh which he operated for several years.
In 1968, Red started driving buses for McIntosh School, a job which he enjoyed for the next 4 years. In 1972, Red became Custodian / Janitor of McIntosh School until his retirement in June of 2005. In his spare time Red helped many family members build and remodel their homes as well as rental properties. After his retirement, Red moved to Mobridge SD where he enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, and fish frys with family and friends.
The highlights of Red’s life were the times he spent with family enjoying the outdoors. Whether it was hunting and fishing or picking potatoes with his brothers or playing cards in his younger days, Red enjoyed time with his family.
Red will be remembered for his “friendly” banter/discussions with family (we all had them) and his honest advice.
Red is survived by his sister in law, Deloris Utter, 25 nieces/nephews and their families, as well as numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
Red is preceded in death by his parents (Ernest and Christine), his 6 brothers and 5 sister in laws (Hugh/Mary, Vernon/Lois, Robert “Bob”/Mary, Lynn “Luke”/Lela, David/Alyce, and Miles), 2 sisters and 2 brother in laws (Doris “Dori”, Madeline “Megs”/ Hank Disrud and George Mortenson) 5 nephews (Corky Utter, Allen Utter, Corey Utter, Kevin Utter, and Mervin Hedlin), 1 niece (Gail O’Donnell) and numerous aunts and uncles.
