Maggie was the youngest born to Herman Oakie and Mary Chasing Hawk. She was born on July 18th, 1963, at the Chasing Hawk ranch near Red Scaffold, South Dakota.
Maggie attended the Red Scaffold School until her freshman year when she transferred to Eagle Butte High School. Before her senior year she had to set her dreams and aspirations aside and put school on hold to help her mother raise her nieces and nephews. When the children were old enough, she set out on a new path, on this new path she met her future husband, Clark Iron Hawk, and in 1983 they were married and welcomed their first of seven children. For the years to follow she worked a lot of different jobs such as an event organizer, patrol officer, construction worker, and she even had her own beading and sewing business. She was also big on her community and making it a better place, whether it was community development, elections, numerous board meetings, helping at voting booths or helping someone who was running for an election, she was always in constant involvement. Even with her constant working and community involvement she made time to not only raise her kids, but also take in children of need, whether it was nieces and nephews, or any child that needed a place to stay or was searching for guidance. Although she rarely danced or sang at cultural events, she made sure not only her children, but all experienced and respected the ways of the circle. She was widely known for her willingness to help those in need, from preparing food for friends and family events, to comforting those in times of healing and sharing her words of wisdom. Maggie loved her spiritual ways and strongly believed in her culture. To her, being Lakota was more than just a people, it was a way of life.
She is welcomed to the spirit world by her Ina, Mary Chasing Hawk, her loving sons, Lundell J. Iron Hawk, Keiko J. Iron Hawk, her grandbaby, Angel J. White Bull and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and relatives.
