Irene Faye McGill (Hellekson), 73, of Lantry, SD passed away December 8, 2021 in Pierre, SD. She was born to parents Benjamin & Irvina Hellekson (Walthal), January 9th 1948 in Rapid City, SD. Irene attended Zeal country school south of Faith, SD from grades 1-8 as 1 of only 2 girls in the school. She attended her freshman year of high school at St. Martins Academy in Rapid City, SD. She had enough of the all-girls school after 1 year and came back and finished her sophomore through senior years at Faith High School. She attended college at SDSU in Brookings, SD becoming a Nurse’s Assistant. She went on to work at the Faith hospital and St. John’s hospital in Rapid City, SD. She later became a home health aide caring for a lot of folks in the Dupree/Lantry/Eagle Butte area from 1987-2004.
She married Lincoln (Bill) McGill of Lantry, SD November 8th 1972 and they settled on the family ranch south of Lantry, SD where they have lived for 49 years. She was survived by her husband Lincoln McGill, 4 children, Grant (Connie) McGill of Elkton, SD. Tammy McGill-Bennett of Pierre SD, Anita (Matthew) Dutton of Cottonwood, AZ, Lance (Farah) McGill of Ft. Hood TX, and honorary son Joe (Larissa) Wishard of Lantry, SD; 11 grandchildren, TaeReigh, Kylund, Leauna, Alayziah, Kaliya, Tristan, Wesley, Levi, Wyatt, Yaretzi and Adrik, siblings Nadine Mahaffy, Dave Hellekson and Dennis Hellekson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Justin McGill, her parents Benjamin and Irvina Hellekson, twin granddaughters Carly Faye and Elaine Rose, son-in-law Roger Bennett & 2 brothers Duane Hellekson and Daniel Hellekson.
Rosary Service will be held at 10am (MST) on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupree, SD, followed by the funeral service at 11am (MST). The burial will take place directly after the funeral service at the Lantry cemetery. The funeral can be viewed here:
