Rose Marie Reuer, 88, lifelong Hoven, SD resident entered eternal life on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A wake service will be 4:30 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the church.

Anna Catherine (Meyer) Rausch and Nick Rausch welcomed Rose Marie on July 2, 1933 along with her twin brother, Reynold.  The family included brothers Harold, Robert and Reynold, sisters Millie Brehmer, Dorothy Nash, Florence Simon, Evie Nemec, Leona Kaiser, Alice Simon, and Agnes Reuer.  Rose Marie attended Arena Country School, St. Anthony’s Catholic grade school and Hoven High School.

On May 26, 1955 she married Reuben Reuer.  Together they spent their life raising a busy and fun-loving family. She was an avid organizer and loved to spearhead and work with programs to help Hoven remain progressive.

Rose Marie’s most important missions in life were that of being a good Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as witnessed by Reuben, her husband of 65 years and their children: Roxanne and Mark Weber, Gary and Vonnie Reuer, Marty Reuer, Terry and Joey Reuer, Lexie and Daniel Vogel, and Lisa and Houma Maka.

Conversations with her six children, 17 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, one step great-great grandchild would often end with “I love you” and “I will pray for you”. An annual highlight for the grandchildren was preparing for the annual Easter egg hunt which included dying 500 dozen eggs over a span of 20 years.

There were many other “Loves of her life” including singing with her sisters in the church choir and at the “Cathedral on the Prairie” concerts, cooking and baking, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events, playing cards and calligraphy.  After the death of their son, Marty, in 1986, Rose Marie began writing poetry and verses.  This became a fluent business, “Calligraphy by Rose Marie”.  Many weekends were spent traveling to craft shows in South Dakota, Minnesota and North Dakota where she met many wonderful people who were inspired by her writings.  Her basic goal in life was to instill and ignite a spark of joy, hope, grace, love and faith in the people she met.

Over the past five years Rose Marie and her family were blessed by many caring and compassionate friends and the staff at Primrose Retirement in Sioux Falls, SD, who took the time to extend extraordinary acts of kindness towards her.  Also administering love and care to her and her family was the Dougherty Hospice House staff.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Nick, her husband, Reuben, son Marty, granddaughter McKayla, brothers Harold, Robert, and Reynold, sisters Millie, Florence and Agnes.
