Lucinda Cook, 37, of Eagle Butte, passed away Sunday January 2, 2022, at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Saturday, January 22, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in St. James’ Episcopal Cemetery, Bear Creek. Wake will be from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at the church with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
Lucinda Dawn Cook was born June 22, 1984 at IHS Hospital, Eagle Butte to Leslie Cook and Deloris Bagola. Cindy was baptized at St. James Episcopal Church, Bear Creek SD. She is the second oldest of six children.
Cindy was raised in the Bear Creek community in her early childhood days. Then family moved to Eagle Butte where she grew up with her cousins on both sides of the family, spending weekends with each other going to bible school and YMCA camps, and day camps, bringing home many projects which she made. Cindy loved the time she spent with her cousins.
Cindy graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School in 2002. She met Mark Garter and to this union they had three beautiful children, Dawnelle Sunrise, Deacohn Lane, and Dredon Lucharias (her “baby Dre”). She loved her children and did everything for them. Her goal was to find housing and give them a home with her. She was so proud when Dawnelle graduated and was excited for Deacohn to graduate next.
Cindy worked several jobs including Taco Johns, CR Motel, and the Medicine Wheel Village. She always had a hug for you, telling you that she loved you. Cindy will be remembered for her teasing, caring and loving ways. She dearly loved her siblings and enjoyed his time of laughing with them.
Cindy loved her job at the Medicine Wheel. In September 2021, she started nursing school and was determined to become a registered nurse however she had major vehicle problems. She stopped her education and continue her work at the Medicine Wheel as an CNA. She made friends with her co-workers, residents, and staff. She truly loved her job. She loved caring for them, and they loved her too.
Lucinda Dawn is survived by her children: Dawnelle Sunrise, Deacohn Lane, and Dreden Lucharias “Baby Dre” of Eagle Butte; her mother, Deloris Bagola; siblings: Rufus “Sami” Cook, Cori (Kyle) Chasing Hawk, and Nate Cook; grandmothers: Grace Larrabee, Hilda Marshall of Eagle Butte, and Eva Jost of California; aunt: Nadine Bagola: uncle, Dale (Arlys) Bagola and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Cook; brothers: Justin Wade Cook and Eric Lee Cook; baby nephew, Eli James Cook; sisters/cousins: Cherie Agneaux, Marilyn Salter, and Shawn Bruguier; brother/cousin, Brent “Chunky” Bagola; grandparents: Nathan and Caroline Bagola and John and Mary Cook; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and other loved ones who already passed on.
May Lucinda be welcomed by her family in the heavens. She will be forever loved.
