Delores M. Joy, 86, of Miller, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller, with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2022, followed by a 6:30 p.m., prayer service, all at the church. Burial will be at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller, at a later date. Masks are required at all services.
Delores Mae was born on July 21, 1935, in south Hand County to Harry and Louise (Ufen) Wilson. She went to Hammill and Corrin country school and then graduated from Miller High School in 1953. After graduation, she then attended St. John’s School of Nursing where she was crowned Miss St. John’s.
Delores returned to Miller to pursue a nursing career for over 50 years. She was married (later divorced) to Richard Joy in 1962 and they had two sons, Allen and David. In 1976 she graduated from Huron College with a business management degree and went on to build and manage Delalda Apartments from 1978 -2019.
She loved Ufen Farm it was always her home. She was an artist and musician and loved to embroidery and make jelly. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served in the Grace Circle at church, and a member of the Red Hats.
She is survived by sons: Allen (Dawn) and David; two grandchildren: Jalynn (Chad) Schmitz and Jacob Joy; two great grandsons: Charles and James Schmitz; brother-in-law, Richard Hargens; and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Betty (Harold) Johnson, Carol Hargens, infant brother, John Wilson, and Kathy (Jay) Jones.
