As of early afternoon, Hughes and Stanley County emergency management director Rob Fines was still advising no travel in both counties until further notice.
Fort Pierre remains under a snow alert. City crews worked on emergency routes throughout the night and are starting on secondary routes. In Pierre, Utilities director Brad Palmer says a snow alert has been issued. He says city plows are making progress opening up the streets, so they want to be sure vehicles are out of the way.
Usually it’s allowed, but Palmer says they are asking businesses NOT to push their snow out into the streets.
Because of major drifting, plowing of residential streets is anticipated to go into the evening. Additionally, a number of vehicles remain stranded on side streets and in intersections. To that end, the No Travel advisory remains in place in the City of Pierre. Click here for a map of Emergency Snow Routes.
