David D. Zemlicka, 68, of Miller, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2022, at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller, Father Paul Josten, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
David was born July 21, 1953, to Lester and Geneva (Goodsell) in Huron, South Dakota. David attended Eden country school until the 8th grade and then Polo High School graduating in 1971. After graduation, David returned to the family farm in Northern Hyde County.
On April 20th, 1974, David married Connie Kolda. To this union, two children were born: Dustin and Jason. They farmed together for a few years until moving to Miller in the late 1970’s. After moving to town, David worked various jobs including Wilbur’s Feed and Seed, Dakota Ag Coop, and Agtegra. Even though David was a city slicker, agriculture was always a part of his life. David retired in 2018 and you could likely find him cruising around town most afternoons.
David loved riding horses and the family enjoyed riding in play-day rodeos. He also loved guns and was an accomplished trap shooter, traveling across the state to compete. David enjoyed hunting and fishing and instilled the love of the outdoors in his boys; they spent many days on the water and in the field together. Over the years, David found great joy spending time with his three grandchildren; watching them enjoy various activities, sharing these stories and pictures with his friends. Grandpa’s eyes would light up when any of those three came through the door.
David is survived by this wife, Connie; two sons: Dustin (Angela) of Wolsey, SD and Jason (Brittany) of Castle Rock, CO; three grandchildren: Tanner Zemlicka (Fiancée Baylee Enander), Logan Zemlicka, and Avery Zemlicka; one brother, Raymond (Linda) Zemlicka of Highmore, SD; two sisters: Jean Dalton of Ft. Pierre, SD and Susan (Ken) Lammers of Polo, SD; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
David was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Geneva; father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Agnes Kolda; sister-in-law, Kathy Kelpen; and brother-in-law, Wayne Dalton.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with David’s arrangements.
