Carlin Brings Horse Jr., 44, of Eagle Butte passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Eagle Butte Manor.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MST, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Landmark Hall, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in LaPlant Congregational Cemetery. A wake service will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2022, at the hall, with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.

Carlin Frank Brings Horse Jr. was born December 16, 1977, in Eagle Butte, SD to Carlin Brings Horse Sr. and Clarice Lara. Carlin or Junebug as many knew him, received his education from Flandreau and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte.

Carlin lived with his father and grandmother, Pearl Brings Horse. He also spent time with his Auntie Mona and her family before moving to Springville, UT to live with his mother and sister. He worked as a firefighter, at United Tribes providing childcare, and as a roofer while in Utah alongside his stepfather. Carlin returned to Eagle Butte where he worked as a carpenter apprentice, Harlow’s Heating and Cooling in Mobridge, and CRST Property and Supply as their furnace specialist as he excelled with his knowledge of HVAC, and lastly for CRST Border Patrol. Carlin had a love for cars and enjoyed his time working on them. However, he was a jack of all trades and could be found tinkering and fixing things in his spare time.

Carlin’s life will be cherished by his parents: Carlin Brings Horse Sr. (Gloria Smith) and Clarice Lara; wife: Darshan Black Moon; son: Reuben Tavai-Fiatoa; hunka children: Hunter Moran, Amanda Knight, Phoenix and John Schlecht, and Jace and TJ Knight; stepdaughters: Quetuane and Surenity Black Moon; hunka grandchildren: Kingsten Knight; step grandchildren: Kairi and Jadon Capone; grandparents: Majel Bird Necklace, Mike and Patsy Bowker, and Mazie and Vern Shelton; siblings: Catherine Brings Horse (Wyett Brings Horse and Ian Moran), Steven Lafferty, and Ernesto Lara; aunts/uncles: Loren Anderson, Rilla Noisy Hawk, Murray Red Fox, Mark Red Fox, Mary Red Fox, Mona and Robert Dunsmore, Lavita Brings Horse, Myra and Orin Bendickson, Paige and Hobby Bowker, Rhea and Jess Hall, Darrel Clown, and Mia LeBeau;  and close cousins: Emmett Bruguier,  Shane Bruguier (Bramm and Katara), Brady and Lisa Miller, John Miller, Kristan Cloud (Anobie, Anahla, Nico), Jesselyn (Sunny) Zephier (Nas and Neo), Kelli and Tyson Thompson, Tina, Taryn, Tristan, and Wallis Stands For, Melody Bruguier (Regina and Valera), Ayanna Maynard, and Jaylynn Red Fox and Family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Phillip and Pearl Brings Horse; maternal grandparents: Beatrice Red Fox and Bud Condon; stillborn infant: Angel Brings Horse; stepfather: Ignacio “Nacho” Lara; nephew: Y’Min Brings Horse, Sr.; uncles: James Brings Horse, and Jay Red Fox; aunt: Nancy Stands For; cousins: Warren Barondeaux, Matt Red Fox, Justin “Cookie” Cook, Trenton “Chico” Stands For and Bennett Red Elk; and grandson: Y’Min Brings Horse Jr.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Carlin’s arrangements.
