Arita Marissa Chasing Hawk was born November 7, 1987 in Eagle Butte, SD to Lyle Chasing Hawk and Candace Hollow Horn. She was welcomed into her Catholic Faith during her baptism alongside her godparents: Allen and Lucy Knight. Arita attended Takini High School, graduating in 2004. While in school, Arita was part of the talented and gifted program “TAG”, basketball, volleyball, softball and cheerleading during the LNI All Tourney. Following high school, she attended Huron College and UTTEC in Bismarck.
In 2012, Arita became the Ultimate Warrior Challenge Champ, receiving the best fighter of the night award following in her big sisters’ footsteps. Arita was a cowgirl at heart! Being born into a family with horses, her Grandpa Cheese could always depend on her to jump on any horse when he needed a rider. She also learned many things from her Grandma Pearl and cherished their time together.
On January 10, 2014 Arita became the mother to a beautiful daughter, K’AnndieLove AirikaDream Chasing Hawk. “Little Miss Queen Boss,” was deeply loved by her mom. Arita took thousands of pictures, treasuring every moment, and documenting all of her outfits and activities. Arita’s nephew King Lee was born 17 days before K’AnndieLove and she was diligent in her aunty-mom role to King. She said “traditionally speaking”, they were brothers and sisters.
Arita “Ritz” always saw the world through rose colored glasses and was able to see the silver lining in each situation. She could put a positive perspective on everything. She had the biggest smile and an even bigger heart, just like her Aunty JoBelle. Arita was a truly phenomenal human being. She was friendly, kind hearted, generous, a good listener, patient, understanding, a good friend and a true peace, love, rainbows and sunshine, groovy chick. When it came to family Arita was the best cheerleader. She loved to celebrate people and could make anyone’s day with her kind words and enthusiasm for life. She would dote on her nieces and nephews! She was the most amazing aunty, putting them all on a pedestal. Arita also loved to cook special meals for them. She loved planning family dinners, gatherings and celebrations, especially holidays. Arita made sure the decorations were beautiful, carefully selecting the menus and calling everyone to make sure they would come.
Arita truly was gifted to a fault. She would help others in their time of need. She was also quite the traveler, going to many places, including Grand Island, NE.
Arita is survived by her daughter, K’AnndieLove AirikaDream Chasing Hawk; her parents: Lyle Chasing Hawk and Candace Hollow Horn; stepfather, Richard Red Elk; siblings: Angel Lee-Chasing Hawk, Andy Chasing Hawk, Terrance Little Thunder, Fancee (Brandon) Bagola, Ann Chasing Hawk, Lyle Chasing Hawk Jr., and Shailo (JoRae) Hollow Horn; grandmother, Lois Chasing Hawk; aunts: Janelle Hollow Horn, Mary Little Sky, Lucinda Chasing Hawk, Bernice White Eagle, Connie Chasing Hawk, Arlene Chasing Hawk, and Brenda Chasing Hawk; uncle, Zigmund Hollow Horn; and nieces and nephews: Julissa, CJ, King, Charlie, Waniyeta, Secret, and Myah.
