RAPID CITY – Unbeaten Dakota Valley was taken to the limit, but advanced to the semifinals of the SDHSAA Class A Boys State Tournament at the Summit Arena at the Monument. Flandreau advanced, as did St. Thomas More and Sioux Valley.
Dakota Valley 62, Sioux Falls Christian 56
Isaac Bruns scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and the Panthers (24-0) needed all of them to stay undefeated and hold off the defending Class A champions. Randy Rosenquist also had 16 for Dakota Valley.
Ethan Bruns led Sioux Falls Christian (14-10) with 22 points. Brooks Nelson scored 14.
Flandreau 50, Groton Area 36
In Flandreau’s first state tournament appearance since 2004, the Fliers (20-3) pulled away with an 11-2 run in the third quarter. Tash Lunday scored 23 points with 10 rebounds. Chase LeBrun had 12.
Jacob Zak led Groton Area (20-4) with 12 points.
St. Thomas More 63, Lakota Tech 53
The big scorers for St. Thomas More (21-2) delivered. Cade Kandolin led the Cavaliers with 24 points. Caleb Hollenbeck scored 18 and Ian Clewley had 15.
Jordan Whirlwind Horse scored 18 for first-time state tournament participant Lakota Tech (16-6). The Tatanka shot 54 percent from the floor, but committed 19 turnovers.
