Raymond LeRoy Duncan, 93, of Lake Side, AZ and formerly of Seneca, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Soltara Nursing Home in Lake Side, AZ. Raymond’s body was donated to science.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
Raymond was born on June 25, 1930, at home in Potter County, SD to Gerald “Brick” and Matilda “Tillie” (Gross) Duncan. He attended various schools through the 11th grade, including Hoven Parochial, Seneca, and Gettysburg schools.
Following school, he worked at various farm jobs where he learned to be a wonderful repairman and carpenter. He worked on the Oahe Dam at Pierre, SD, and he was there when President Kennedy dedicated the dam. Raymond made a career out of purchasing and remodeling old houses. He did outstanding work and took great pride in every job he completed.
Raymond married Ruth Stewart of Tempe, AZ in 1983, and they made their home in Arizona. They made several trips back to South Dakota to visit Raymond’s family. They were married 26 years before her passing in 2009.
Raymond was a member of St. Mary of Angels Catholic Church, Pine Top, AZ. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He said a rosary every day.
Raymond will be remembered as a very wonderful, caring person. He was a lover of animals, especially cats. His favorite pet was his cat, Susie.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Eriksen of Sioux Falls; nephews, Marty Eriksen of Sioux Falls and Rex Lower of Gettysburg and their families.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; stepmothers, Adeline Duncan and Inger Duncan; wife, Ruth; and sister, Ruby Peters.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Raymond’s arrangements.
