The Pierre City Commission has approved changes to the city’s licensing practices for transportation companies.
City finance director Twila Hight says the proposed changes would modernize Pierre’s current ordinance.
The revised ordinance outlines specifics about transportation network companies.
Because state law includes information regulating transportation network companies, the updated Pierre ordinance copies that language.
Currently River Cities Public Transit and local Lyft drivers fall under the transportation network category in the ordinance, but if other similar companies come to Pierre, they’d fall under this revised ordinance as well.
Pierre’s revised ordinance requires impacted companies to:
- annually pay a $150 business license fee
- provide proof of insurance
- maintain proper records of vehicle inspections and operators
- make sure vehicles used by transportation companies are clearly labeled
- make sure drivers have appropriate company identification
