A 26-year-old Pierre woman faces multiple charges after taking law enforcement on a chase through three central South Dakota counties Friday evening.
According to the Pierre Police Department, at approximately 6:30pm, Central South Dakota Communications dispatch received a traffic complaint. Officers located the vehicle, observed it to have a non-operational brake light and attempted to make a traffic stop.
Kelsey Oka failed to yield to the officers and fled. The pursuit continued through Pierre, Fort Pierre and south on US Highway 83. She stopped just into Lyman County after her vehicle drove over tire spikes that had been deployed. She was taken into custody. Oka is charged with Aggravated Eluding, DUI, Speeding, Stop Lamps Required, Unsafe Lane Change, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, Stop Sign Violation and No Child Restraint. Additional charges may be pending against Oka.
Assisting in the apprehension of Oka were officers from the Pierre Police Department, Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol. Oka was transported to the Hughes County Jail.
