The South Dakota State Visual Art Competition was held in Rapid City March 15 and 16 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. Judging took place Friday morning behind closed doors with judges selected from across the state every year. When judging the artwork, the judges only see the artwork, title, and artist statement.
When judging is complete and the winners chosen, the students’ names and schools are revealed. There are 3 different levels based upon the state’s classes: B, A, and AA. There are 12 categories in each class and there were over 300 works submitted this year for all classes. Stanley County School was entered in the class A division, submitting work in 10 of the 12 categories and placed in 4 of the categories.
