One person died and another person was seriously injured late Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash 16 miles west of Gettysburg.
Names of the three persons involved have not yet been released.
A 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when the 24-year-old female driver lost control as the vehicle entered a right-turning curve. The vehicle cross the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2013 Ford F350 pickup. She sustained life-threatening injuries, was transported via ambulance to the Gettysburg hospital, then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The 35-year-old male passenger in the Monte Carlo was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
Uninjured was the 19-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was wearing a seat belt.
Charges are pending against both drivers.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
