Bridge west of Mobridge to be dedicated today in honor of U.S. Army Private George P. Thares

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs will host a Fallen Hero Bridge Dedication Friday (July 31, 2026) in Mobridge to honor U.S. Army Private George P. Thares.

The ceremony will start at 1:00 p.m. CT at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge (518 2^nd Ave W). The bridge to be named in honor of PVT Thares is the US HWY 12 bridge west of Mobridge.

The public is invited to attend to recognize this hero’s service and sacrifice to our nation.

This dedication is part of a statewide partnership between the Governor’s Office and the state Departments of Veterans Affairs, Military, and Transportation. The program establishes enduring tributes that honor service and serve as a lasting reminder to future generations.
