Today’s (Jan. 18, 2021) update from the state Department of Health shows 57,121 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far to 47,292 South Dakotans.
To date, the state has received 29,337 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Of those, 9679 people have received 1 dose and 9829 people have completed the two shot series. 27,784 doses of the Moderna vaccine have been delivered to the state and all of those doses have been administered.

Coronavirus patients currently occupy 7.4% of the staffed hospital beds in the state. Other patients are using 49.5% of the staffed beds leaving 43% available. Of the staffed, adult intensive care unit beds in the state, COVID-19 patients are using 15.9%, other patients occupy 37.1% and 47% are available to be used.

A confirmed case of COVID-19 is defined as persons with a positive RT-PCR test. A probable case is defined as persons with a positive antigen test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
