The winner of the Pierre Area snowplow naming contest saw the machines bearing the names she submitted yesterday (March 4, 2021) at the South Dakota Department of Transportation shop in Pierre.
Jackie Heier chose the name Lewis & Clark for the snowplow and tow plow.
SDDOT engineer Dean VanDeWiele says Pierre/Fort Pierre is the only area in the contest that named two plows.
VanDeWiele says their fleet of snowplows are computers on wheels.
The newly named plows’ assigned route is Highway 83 south of Fort Pierre, so it works on Highways 1804 and 1806 which are named after the years Lewis and Clark went up and down the Missouri River in this area.
