South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety has planned 15 sobriety checkpoints to be held this month (May) in 13 counties.
May checkpoints will be held in Stanley, Jackson, Brookings, Brown, Butte, Charles Mix, Codington, Jerauld, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington and Yankton counties.
The checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with the help of local law enforcement. The goal of the checkpoints is discourage people from drinking and then driving.
Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are part of the Department of Public Safety.
