Singing, dancing, praying, praising and protesting all took place on the lawn of the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre today (May 20) during the Governor’s Round Dance event.
While drummers from the Standing Rock and Crow Creek Sioux Tribes sang, state Secretary of Tribal Relations David Flute interpreted their Flag Song.
Governor Kristi Noem said she’s worked to celebrate the state’s tribes during her time in office.
Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Chairman Mike Faith shared a message about problem solving.
The Round Dance event also included prize giveaways for the dancers and a variety of vendors.
