Karl’s TV & Appliance of Pierre is moving to a new location thanks to some help from the Pierre Economic Development Corporation and the city’s sales tax rebate program.
At last night’s (May 25, 2021) Pierre City Commission meeting, PEDCO COO Jim Protexter said the rebate program is an economic development tool.
Protexter says Karl’s will relocate from Sioux Avenue (400 West) to a new store front at the Northridge Plaza– occupying part of the space where JC Penny’s used to be.
He says the cost for Karl’s to relocate is a little over $415-thousand.
Protexter says that funding gap is where PEDCO comes in.
A statement from Karl’s Chief Executive Officer Chuck Bergen– sent to DRG Media Group by Glennis Zarecky of Midwest Holdings– says the company feels fortunate to have received the support of the Pierre community for 56 years and is excited for the new opportunities with a larger showroom.
Karl’s currently employs nine associates and will add an additional four to six full time positions once the move is complete. Karl’s first opened in Pierre in 1965 and has been in its current location since 1974.
Karl’s offers major appliance brands and will be able to expand its offerings to include Subzero, Wolf, Thermador, Bosch, GE Café and more. The current Karl’s location will be for sale or lease.
