A 23 year old man from Pierre faces Assault charges after an incident Saturday night (May 29, 2021) in Pierre.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says officers were called to the 1900 block of Kennedy Drive shortly after 11pm for a possible assault.
The investigation showed Jesus Araujo-Cota of Pierre had been in a verbal argument with a 21-year-old female, also of Pierre. During the argument, Araujo-Cota threw an object at the female, prompting her, a 20-year-old Pierre female and two children to lock themselves in a bedroom. Araujo-Cota began spraying pepper spray around the residence to try and get them to come out of the bedroom.
Araujo-Cota was ultimately arrested on two counts of Contributing to the Abuse or Neglect of a Child, two counts of Simple Assault Domestic Intimidation, two counts of Simple Assault Intimidation and one count of Simple Assault Domestic.

Shortly after midnight Sunday (May 30) morning, Pierre Police were called about a burglary alarm having gone off at a convenience store on North Euclid Avenue. A video lottery machine had been damaged and the money taken. The investigation determined the damage had been done approximately 1.5 hours before the burglary alarm investigation began.
Later in the same day, patrol officers received information that 24-year-old Daniel Puppel of Rapid City was responsible for the theft. Officers located Puppel who was ultimately arrested for Grand Theft Over $1000, Intentional Damage to Property and Possession of Marijuana.
Around 10pm Sunday (May 30), Pierre Police officers were called to the 400 Block of S. Central Avenue on a report of a male and female having a verbal argument.
Officers determined 41 year old Ronald Wayne Anderson of Pierre had an outstanding Hughes County warrant and an outstanding Parole Absconder warrant, so he was taken into custody.
