A 33 year old Fort Pierre man has been indicted (June 1, 2021) by a Stanley County grand jury for Child Abuse.
The charge against Nathan Scot Munce comes from an incident at Munce’s home on or about May 20, 2021, involving striking his daughter with a plastic hockey stick in an unreasonable manner.
States Attorney Tom Maher says Part II information alleges the child abuse offense occurred while the Munce was on probation for a felony methamphetamine offense in 2020, making him an habitual offender. The prior conviction also elevates the current charge from a Class 4 Felony to a Class 3 Felony.
Maher says a Class 4 felony, enhanced to a Class 3 felony, carries a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years imprisonment and $30,000 fine. Munce has been release on $3,000 cash bond, with no contact and other bond conditions having been ordered. Further proceedings have been scheduled for June 22 in Circuit Court.
