The Pierre City Commission has approved a plan to rehabilitate one of Pierre Regional Airport’s runways.
This week (June 8, 2021), commissioners approved a Request to Bid the crosswind runway (Runway 7-25), which is used as the airport’s secondary airstrip. It will receive a new asphalt surface, as well as new lighting and markings.
Airport Manager Cameron Howard says this is a general maintenance project that’s eligible for 100% federal funding. He says the federal funds come through the Airport Improvement Program.
Pierre’s airport is eligible for a $1 million annual stipend if the airport reaches 10,000 commercial enplanements or receives an enplanement waiver due to challenging circumstances.
Bid opening for the project is scheduled for July 8, with rehabilitation work beginning next year.
