YANKTON – Mount Marty University announced Wednesday that football head coach Mike Woodley will retire on August 2 and that associate head coach John Michaletti will replace him. Mount Marty will have its first season of football in 2021.
Woodley, the longtime NAIA head coach, was hired in 2019 to begin the program from scratch. He coached Grand View to the 2013 NAIA national championship and is a member of the Iowa High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
Michaletti joined the Lancers’ staff last season after having been defensive coordinator at Kansas Wesleyan University, helping turn that program into a national power. Michaletti has been Mount Marty’s recruiting coordinator and helped build a 2021 projected roster of over 100 athletes.
Mount Marty will host Dakota Wesleyan in its first football game on September 4 at Crane-Youngworth Field.
