A 29 year old man who has spent time living in Pierre and Sully County was sentenced this week (Aug. 16, 2021) in South Dakota’s 6th Circuit Court on charges coming from incidents in Sully, Stanley and Hughes counties two years ago.
Stanley County states attorney Tom Maher says Travis Steven Long Fox appeared before Judge Margo Northrup for a combined hearing regarding five criminal cases.
Maher says the charges against Long Fox stem from:
- June 30, 2019– resisting his arrest regarding a DOC detainer and being in possession of marijuana
- July 12, 2019– his participation in a burglary and theft of firearms from a hunting lodge in Sully County
- July 22, 2019– Long Fox and Shandon Michael Bad Warrior of Pierre, smashing glass doors and breaking into a Fort Pierre bar and grille causing substantial vandalism damage, looting property from the premises and an adjoining building including cash, a motorcycle and other personal property.
- July 22, 2019– committing burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and theft of other property from homes in Pierre and Hughes County
By plea agreement, Long Fox plead guilty to the offenses and admitted he is an Habitual Offender with at least three prior felony offenses. Judge Northrup sentenced Long Fox to:
- 8 years in prison on each of two grand theft counts in Hughes County,
- 10 years in prison for each felony charge of vandalism and burglary in Stanley County,
- 10 years for burglary in Sully County
- other terms and conditions including fines, court costs and restitution.
The Hughes and Stanley sentences will run concurrently– meaning they’ll be served at the same time. The Sully County sentence will be served after the Hughes and Stanley County sentences are complete.
