One person died and three other people were injured yesterday afternoon (Sept. 16, 2021) in a two-vehicle crash two miles west of Murdo.
Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 2017 Subaru Forester was westbound on Interstate 90 around 3:30pm when it left the roadway, went across the median and into the eastbound lanes where it collided head-on with a 2018 Hyundai Accent.
The 26-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. The 48-year-old female passenger received life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital.
Both occupants of the Subaru– the 57-year-old female driver and the 64-year-old male passenger– received serious non-life threatening injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to the Pierre hospital.
Names of the people involved are not yet being released. Charges are pending against the driver of the Subaru. All four people involved were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
