A 26-year old woman from Bucaramanga, Columbia, has been identified as the person killed in a Sept. 16, 2021, two-vehicle crash west of Murdo.
Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 2017 Subaru Forester was westbound on Interstate 90 around 3:30pm when it left the roadway, went across the median and into the eastbound lanes where it collided head-on with a 2018 Hyundai Accent.
Tatiana Latorre, who was the driver of the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. 48-year-old female passenger Omaira Jacome, also from Bucaramanga, Columbia, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital.
Both occupants of the Subaru received serious non-life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Pierre hospital. They were identified as Haliun Zhu, the 57-year-old female driver, and Youfan Wang, the 64-year-old male passenger. Both are from Wheeling, IL.
Charges are pending against Zhu. All four people were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
