After nearly four decades of service on the Capital City Campus Board of Directors, Jim Mollison is retiring.
Way back when CCC was just getting started, Ann Thompson reached out to ask Jim Mollison to join the Board of Directors. He could see the vision of how CCC would positively impact the Pierre and Fort Pierre communities and enthusiastically accepted her request.
“It has been an interesting ride,” Mollison said during his final CCC Board of Directors meeting this week. “We created a new model all those years ago and we’re now developing a new model that I believe is going to be great. We have accomplished a great deal for our local economy. And, this Board of Directors is as good or better than any we’ve had over the years.”
Jim had a lot of impact at CCC during his years of service. “Jim has been integral for the longevity of CCC,” said Board Member Robert Riter. “He was always the first one willing to step in and help. His focus was important for us. He challenged the Board to do what needed to be done and to do it well.”
Not only was he an active board member, Jim and his late wife, Susan, also set up a scholarship for CCC students. The scholarship is intended to support non-traditional students working toward improving their education.
Jim’s “do it right” attitude flowed through everything he’s done along the way. “If there was a debate or concern about something, and we needed to know whether we were doing the right thing, we would look to Jim Mollison,” said Board Member Ron Woodburn. “He always did the right thing. He was our conscience.”
CCC currently hosts the Lake Area Technical College Licensed Practical Nursing program as well as the Dakota Wesleyan University Learn & Earn Program. Spring 2022 general education classes will be offered through SDSU, with registration opening in late Fall 2021.
