The Pierre/Fort Pierre Area Community Foundation has nearly doubled a $50-thousand grant thanks to matching funds from two different donors.
Foundation president Becky Burke says after raising over $50,000 for the local community savings account, they received $43,750 in matching grant funds from Gary and Connie Grittner of Fort Pierre ($25,000) and from the Farrar Family Community Development Fund ($18,750).
Burke says the fund has granted over $433,000 to Pierre/Fort Pierre area nonprofits since it was created in 1997.
Donor Gary Grittner says the fund is a permanent endowment with the South Dakota Community Foundation, but it’s overseen by a local advisory council.
The Pierre/Fort Pierre Area Community Foundation currently has net assets over $500-thousand. The advisory council accepted the match challenge in 2019.
