Pierre Police officers were called to the 300 block of South Central Avenue a little before 11pm Saturday night (Dec. 18, 2021) because of a fight in progress.
The first officer to arrive observed 54 year old Darin Gravatt of Pierre striking a defenseless victim multiple times. As the officer intervened, 51 year old Julie Hamaker of Pierre attempted to prevent the officer from doing so.
Officers were able to take Gravatt and Hamaker into custody. Gravatt is charged with Aggravated Assault. Hamaker was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and also charged with Obstructing an Officer in relation to the Saturday night incident.
The victim received serious injures, and as a result, was transported to Avera St. Mary’s by ambulance.
