BOX ELDER – St. Thomas More stayed cool, Stanley County became frustrated, and the Buffaloes’ first SoDak 16 game became no contest.
St. Thomas More routed SC 60-21 Tuesday in a boys Class A SoDak 16 game at Douglas High School’s Whitehead Auditorium to qualify for the state tournament for the 14th time in the last 19 seasons.
In the middle of an 11-2 first quarter run by More, Stanley County’s Lathan Prince was called for two offensive fouls. After the second one, Prince, one of the seven Buffalo seniors, committed a technical foul. More eventually grew the lead to 15 at the half and gradually kept extending it through the second half.
Off the bench, Will Green led St. Thomas More (20-2) with 16 points and hit four three-pointers. Cade Kandolin scored 14, Jordan Uhlir tallied 11 and Ian Clewley had 10 points.
Daysen Titze scored eight points for Stanley County (15-8). Prince, who eventually fouled out in the last game of his outstanding five-season career, scored six points.
SC was playing for a chance to make the state tournament for the first time since 1997. The Buffaloes last played in a district final game in 2008.
