The City of Pierre has approved it’s curb and gutter replacement plan for 2022.
In addition to 50 blocks of street improvements, Pierre will also replace about 30 blocks of curb and gutter.
City Engineer John Childs says in recent years Pierre has taken a more proactive approach to curb and gutter replacement. He says new curb and gutter in your neighborhood is a signal that street improvements are coming. When possible, they have started doing the replacement a year in advance to help expedite the street construction timeline.
Childs says well-functioning curb and gutter are essential to street preservation. He says if water isn’t moving properly, it can penetrate the streets causing cracks, potholes and sometimes severe damage under the surface.
This year’s curb and gutter replacement program is expected to begin next month (April 2022) with the most significant run of it along Pleasant Drive. Additional blocks throughout the community will also see improvements.
The $371,000 curb and gutter contract is scheduled for completion this fall.
