At Thursday’s (June 25, 2026) Governor’s Agricultural Summit in Pierre, South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden said the state is “doubling down” on supporting value added agriculture.
Rhoden says the support shows in different businesses that have come here or expanded here in the past year.
Rhoden says ethanol is another area of value added agriculture where South Dakota is doing well.
Rhoden says “agriculture is king in South Dakota,” but he says it also has challenges– one of which is drought.
Thursday’s scheduled ended with a keynote address from Pierre native Grey Zabel who spoke about how agriculture and his family farm have helped him with his football career.
Friday’s schedule includes tours of South Dakota State University’s Dakota Lakes Research Farm; Puris, a regional pea protein processing facility; and Dare 2 Dream Equine Conditioning.
The annual Governor’s Ag Summit brings together agricultural leaders, producers, industry partners and stakeholders from across the state to connect, collaborate and address key challenges and opportunities shaping South Dakota agriculture.
