South Dakota U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) are asking state residents to submit comments detailing the issues they are having with poor service from the United States Postal Service.
Round says his office hears from South Dakotans on a daily basis about the issues they’re experiencing with mail delivery. He says at his request, OIG has opened an investigation into South Dakota’s postal service and getting feedback from South Dakotans is a part of this investigation. The comment deadline is July 26, 2026.
Rounds has been working on the Postal Service issue for more than two years. Most recently, in April (2026), Rounds was notified that the Office of the Inspector General was on the ground in South Dakota to investigate mail service. This month (June 2026), Rounds sent a letter to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs announcing his intention to place a hold on all USPS nominees until South Dakota’s issues are resolved.
