RAPID CITY – There were several good Class A boys basketball teams this season, but none was better than Dakota Valley.
The Panthers completed a perfect 26-0 season Saturday with an 82-65 win over Sioux Valley in the SDHSAA Class A Boys Tournament at the Summit Arena at the Monument for the program’s first state championship.
Randy Rosenquist scored 25 and made five three-pointers to lead the Panthers. Isaac Bruns tallied 24, including 11-of-11 free throws.
Dakota Valley trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter, but then led by six at halftime and outscored Sioux Valley (20-6) 52-31 in the second half.
Oliver Vincent scored 23 for the Cossacks.
3rd Place – St. Thomas More 43, Flandreau 42
Cade Kandolin hit the winning points for STM (22-3) on a layup with 13 seconds left. Kandolin led the Cavaliers with 20.
Liam Streitz had 13 for the Fliers (20-5).
5th Place – Sioux Falls Christian 67, Winner 54
7th Place – Groton Area 66, Lakota Tech 57
Groton Area (21-5) trailed by 10 in the first quarter before rallying, outsourcing Lakota Tech (16-8) 19-7 in the second quarter.
Lane Tietz led the Tigers with 16 points.
Triston LeBeau had 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting for the Tatanka.
