Continuing COVID mitigation efforts may reduce impact of future waves of the disease

January’s surge in COVID-19 cases in South Dakota restarted conversations on the importance of using mitigation efforts to contain the virus.

Interim State Health Secretary Joan Adam says the COVID vaccines are working.

Adam says since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people pushed routine doctor visits aside.

While COVID-19 is expected to be an endemic virus, Adam says future waves may be less impactful because of what health officials have learned over the past two years.

Adam says that it’s still important to take COVID-19 seriously, even as cases decline.
