District 24 republican Representative Will Mortenson is running for re-election.
Mortenson says he wants to continue his “common sense, conservative approach to the Legislature.”
Mortenson, 33, is lifelong resident of central South Dakota. He practices law in Fort Pierre, focusing on ag business and estate planning. Mortenson and his wife, Shuree, live in Pierre with their two children: Augie and Jules.
This will be the first election after the redistricting process set new legislative boundaries in South Dakota. District 24 now includes Haakon County along with Hughes, Hyde, Stanley and Sully counties.
Three other republicans have also filed petitions to run for District 24 House. They are incumbent Mike Weisgram and challengers Jim Sheehan and Mary Weinheimer.
On the Senate side for District 24, republican incumbent Mary Duvall is being challenged by Jim Mehlhaff.
The primary election will be held June 7, 2022.
