The Pierre Regional Airport had over 1200 enplanements last month (March 2022).
City commissioner Jamie Huizenga says traffic has been steadily increasing.
As of the end of March, there has been 3226 passengers flying out of Pierre, compared to the 1820 at the end of March 2021.
At the 10-thousand enplanements mark, the Essential Air Service airports become eligible for $1-million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Huizenga says Denver Air started its new flight time schedule for Pierre on Monday (April 4, 2022).
DAC currently provides 12 flights per week between Pierre and the Denver International Airport, with there being two flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The current plan is for those mid-day times– arrival at 1:50pm and departure at 2:25pm CT– to remain the same.
Denver Air is also the sole EAS carrier for the Watertown Regional Airport. The federal Essential Air Service contract for both airports runs through May 31, 2023.
