Artwork by a senior at Pierre TF Riggs High School will be displayed in Washington, DC, for the coming year.
Pierre’s Vick Becker received 2nd place in the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for South Dakota with his piece “What the Light Sees.” His artwork will be displayed in South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson’s Washington, DC, office for the next year. Becker’s art teacher is Jill Kokesh.
Isabelle Hastings, a Sioux Falls Jefferson High School freshman, took first place with her acrylic painting, “Blushing.” Her artwork will be on exhibit in the Cannon Tunnel at the US Capitol for the next year– along with the winning artwork from other congressional districts. Hastings’ art teacher is Brittany Carmany.
The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by Rep. Johnson’s office in partnership with the South Dakota Arts Council. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, providing members of Congress with an opportunity to recognize talent in their home districts.
The South Dakota Arts Council, an office of the South Dakota Department of Tourism, is a state agency serving South Dakotans and their communities through the arts with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of South Dakota.
