FORT PIERRE – This was a long time coming.
A year after suffering a disappointing first-round playoff loss, the Stanley County Buffaloes clinched a winning volleyball season for the first time since 2016 with a four-set win Tuesday in the 6A first round over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 at Parkview Auditorium.
It was the first postseason win for Stanley County (14-12) since 2020.
In all three sets they won, Stanley County had to rally. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte led 14-8 in the first set, 5-2 in the second set and 16-10 in the fourth set.
Cadence Hand and Grace Sargent each had 13 kills for the Buffaloes. Morgan Hoffman served five aces, with Hand adding three. Sargent and Brylee Kafka each had two blocks.
Lauren Keckler scored seven kills, four aces and a block for the Braves (6-20).
