VERMILLION – In the head coaching debut of Kayla Karius, South Dakota women’s basketball hit a program-record 19 three-pointers in a 106-41 win over Midland at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Grace Larkins and Alexi Hempe scored 18 each to lead the Coyotes. Morgan Hansen scored 16 points and Nicole Avila-Ambrosi scored 14 points in her USD debut.
MADISON, WI – South Dakota men’s basketball struggled Monday in the season opener, losing 85-59 to Wisconsin.
Tyler Wahl led five double-figure scorers for the Badgers with 19 points. Wisconsin hit 12 three-pointers, while the Coyotes dropped in only two.
Kruz Perrott-Hunt led USD with 21 points. Paul Bruns scored 10. A.J. Pltizuweit scored eight points in his first game back since missing all of last season with a knee injury.
