FORT PIERRE – Brynlee Sabers scored a natural hat trick Friday, sending the Mitchell Marlins over the Oahe Capital girls 4-2 at the Expo Center in the Capitals’ season-opener.
Sabers scored twice in the first period, then added a shorthanded goal at 3:29 of the second period.
Elliot Bertsch scored the Capitals’ first goal of the season with 2:45 remaining in the middle period, then Emily Nemec scored 2:08 into the third to cut Mitchell’s lead to a goal. Tristen Zimmer scored a powerplay goal with 36 seconds left for Mitchell to seal the visitors’ win.
The Capital girls will host Rushmore Saturday at the Expo Center. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
