PIERRE – When the Governors needed a very big win, a very big effort came from one of their senior leaders.
Jackson Edman broke a 60-60 tie by scoring six straight fourth-quarter points, then Pierre held on for a 68-63 win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt Friday at the Riggs High Gym.
Edman, who scored 22, scored three buckets in a two-minute stretch, starting with just under four and a half minutes remaining.
Lincoln Kienholz scored 19 for Pierre (12-7) and Jacob Mayer scored 13 with five assists.
After the Governors led by 10 in the first half and eight at halftime, Roosevelt (11-8) rallied to even the game before Edman’s run. Roosevelt cut the lead to 66-63 with just over two minutes left, but then Edman clinched the win for Pierre with two free throws with 18 seconds left.
Pierre goes into Monday’s final regular season game at Sioux Falls Jefferson (5:30 PM, River 92.7) tied with Roosevelt at number eight in the AA boys seed points standings. If the Governors win on Monday, they would then host a SoDak 16 game on Saturday.
