SIOUX FALLS – Brylee Kafka scored six goals, including the tying goal with 16 seconds left in regulation, but the Oahe Capital girls’ season ended Saturday when Sioux Center took a 7-6 overtime win over the Capitals in the consolation bracket of the girls varsity state tournament at Scheels IcePlex.
Kafka scored in the first period, then twice more in the second, but a hat trick by Sioux Center’s Faith Van Voorst had the Storm leading 3-2 after two periods.
Kafka scored two more in the first 5:39 of the third period and Oahe (7-10-1) led again at 4-3. Carlee Lange, Jaiden Cannegieter and Camille McCord then scored for Sioux Center. Kafka then scored with 2:01 left in the third period, then notched the tying goal with 16 seconds to go before Geonella Ramirez scored the winner for Sioux Center only 12 seconds into overtime.
Sara Bierne had three assists for the Capitals. Abagail Stewart-Fromm made 23 saves.
