RAPID CITY – Form held in the first round of the SDHSAA Boys Class AA State Basketball Tournament Thursday at the Summit Arena at the Monument, as all four higher seeds won.
Top seed Sioux Falls Jefferson used two big runs to stop Harrisburg. Yankton had a big game from Mac Ryken in a win over Sioux Falls Washington. Sioux Falls Lincoln held off Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Mitchell had important late three-pointers to blunt a Pierre comeback.
Sioux Falls Jefferson 53, Harrisburg 41
Jefferson earned its 20th win, taking charge of the game with 10-2 and 19-7 runs.
Griffin Wilde led the Cavaliers (20-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Taylen Ashley scored 13. Kaden Year tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Jacoby Mehrman paced Harrisburg (14-8) with 17 points.
Yankton 58, Sioux Falls Washington 51
Yankton needed all of Mac Ryken’s 29 points to advance to the semifinal.
Ryken was nine-of-16 shooting, three-of-five on three-pointers and eight-of-eight at the free throw line for the Bucks (17-5). Drew Ryken scored 13.
Gage Gasca scored 17 for Washington (15-7). AJ Akot had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
