The Alzheimer’s Association recently released its 2023 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report. It contains new information regarding its impact on caregivers.
Leslie Morrow is executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of South Dakota.
She says 40% of caregivers pass away before the person they’re caring for.
Morrow says the good news is the legislature appropriated $2-million dollars to start up and continue adult day services designed to give caretakers a much-needed break. She says the new report also finds a shortage of direct care workers in South Dakota and nationwide.
