PIERRE – Post 8’s new season is off to a difficult start.
The Eights were swept Thursday in a season-opening doubleheader by the Brookings Bandits 13-3 and 14-4 at Hyde Stadium.
Game 1: Brookings 13, Post 8 3
The Eights’ lack of control on the mound led to the loss. Post 8 pitching issued 15 walks, as Brookings won with only three hits.
Jonny Lyons had two hits and a RBI for Post 8. Carter Sanderson also had two hits.
Game 2: Brookings 14, Post 8 4
Post 8 was tied at four after three innings before the Bandits scored two in the fourth, then eight in the fifth to win by run rule. Zach Struck tripled and drove in three runs for Brookings.
Lyons homered, singled and drove in two more runs for the Eights. Sanderson and Matthew Brewer drove in the other Post 8 runs.
